Reduction of entry restrictions from 5 September 2020

On Saturday, 5 September 2020, certain regulations reducing the entry restrictions introduced by the Government on Friday night were put into effect. By the new provisions, the former restrictions are now reduced as follows:

In respect of the employees of cultural institutes:

  • The employees of Hungarian cultural institutes shall be treated equally with the Hungarian citizens if they enter the territory of Hungary after having participated (either as an artist or as a member of the technical personnel) at the cultural event held in a foreign country.

Acceptance of tests performed in foreign countries:

  • Unlike the previous regulation, the SARS-CoV-2 PCR test, if performed in any country of the Schengen area, in the United States or Canada in line with the medical rules of, may be accepted as the first test, provided that the performance of the test is certified by a document issued in either the Hungarian or the English language.

Regulations concerning business-related trips:

  • The entry to the territory of Hungary is unlimited if the traveller certifies in the date of the entry that the purpose of the trip is business-related. This provision applies to persons traveling from abroad to Hungary and to persons returning to Hungary from a business trip to a foreign country. If there’s any doubt concerning the business-related purpose of the trip, the general rules on the entry included in the previous Government Decree shall apply.

Sports events, cultural events:

  • The persons entering the territory of Hungary to participate in a cultural event (either as an artist or as a member of the technical staff) shall be treated equally with the persons entering the country to participate at a sports event. Those persons who intend to enter the territory of Hungary in order to participate at a sports event or cultural event for professional purposes may enter the country if they have a Hungarian and/or English document including the results of one molecular biology test performed in line with the medical rules (SARS-CoV-2 PCR test), performed maximum 3 (three) days prior to the date of the sports or cultural event, certifying that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus couldn’t be detected in the traveller’s body at the time of the performance of the test.
  • Those persons, who intend to enter the territory of Hungary in order to participate at a sports event or cultural event as viewer/audience, may enter the country if they present the valid ticket for the event and have a Hungarian and/or English document, including the results of one molecular biology test performed in line with the medical rules (SARS-CoV-2 PCR test), performed maximum 3 (three) days prior to the date of the sports or cultural event, certifying that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus couldn’t be detected in the traveller’s body at the time of the performance of the test. The persons permitted to enter the country in line with the above rules shall leave the territory of Hungary within 72 hours from the date of entry.
